Expertise

Sweeney is a corporate and commercial litigation lawyer with experience in regulatory compliance, insolvency and restructuring, and commercial disputes.

In his brief career, Sweeney has acted for a wide range of clients, including ASX-listed and private companies, insolvency practitioners, incorporated associations and individuals.

Sweeney studied at the University of Sydney and was admitted to practice in November 2022 after completing his practical legal training with the Piddington Society. He also serves on the current Restructuring and Insolvency Network WA committee.

Recent work

Sweeney splits his time working across Blackwall’s corporate, litigation and insolvency teams. His recent work includes:

  • advising various ASX-listed companies on regulatory compliance matters;
  • preparing for and instructing on a Supreme Court of Western Australia trial relating to a directorship dispute for a transnational company;
  • drafting mining tenement transaction documents;
  • reviewing and amending the rules of incorporation of an incorporated association;
  • performing due diligence enquiries on several large-scale multinational transactions;
  • advising insolvency practitioners on the operation of the Personal Property Securities Act;
  • assisting in the development of a scheme of arrangement for an ASX-listed company; and
  • co-presenting a continuing professional development seminar on ‘Corporate Collective Investment Vehicles’.
